Peer Review Process

Revue Française d'Histoire du Livre follows a rigorous, fair, and transparent peer review process to ensure the publication of high-quality scholarly work in the fields of book history, publishing history, bibliography, manuscript studies, print culture, and related historical disciplines.

All submitted manuscripts undergo an initial editorial assessment to determine their suitability for the journal’s scope, academic relevance, originality, and compliance with the journal’s submission guidelines. Manuscripts that do not meet the basic requirements may be returned to the authors for revision or declined at this stage.

Submissions that pass the preliminary screening are subjected to a double-blind peer review process, in which the identities of both authors and reviewers are kept confidential throughout the review procedure. Each manuscript is normally evaluated by at least two independent experts with recognized expertise in the relevant subject area.

Reviewers are invited to assess manuscripts on the basis of:

  • Originality and scholarly contribution

  • Relevance to the journal’s aims and scope

  • Soundness of historical methodology and research design

  • Use and interpretation of primary and secondary sources

  • Clarity, organization, and academic writing quality

  • Accuracy of references, citations, and supporting evidence

  • Significance of the findings for the field of book history and historical studies

Based on the reviewers’ reports, the editorial office may reach one of the following decisions:

  • Accept without revisions

  • Accept with minor revisions

  • Revise and resubmit (major revisions required)

  • Reject

When revisions are requested, authors are expected to submit a revised manuscript together with a detailed response explaining how each reviewer comment has been addressed. Revised manuscripts may be returned to the original reviewers for further evaluation when necessary.

The Editor-in-Chief and the Editorial Board make the final publication decision after considering the reviewers’ recommendations, the quality of the revised manuscript, and the journal’s editorial standards. The journal is committed to maintaining editorial independence, confidentiality, impartiality, and academic integrity throughout the review process.

Reviewers are expected to declare any potential conflicts of interest and to treat all manuscripts as confidential documents. The journal also employs editorial checks for originality, citation integrity, and ethical compliance before final acceptance and publication.

Through this peer review system, Revue Française d'Histoire du Livre seeks to promote reliable, original, and internationally relevant research that advances the understanding of the history of books, texts, printing, publishing, and reading cultures across different historical periods and regions.
